Dr. Susan Burkhart, our Chief of Staff, grew up in Galion, Ohio and developed a love for animals at a very young age, announcing when she was seven years old that she would someday become a veterinarian. She graduated as valedictorian of Galion Senior High School in 1982, then with a Bachelor of Science degree from Bowling Green State University in 1986. Her childhood dream was realized in 1990 when she graduated from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Burkhart practiced small and exotic animal medicine in Cincinnati and Zanesville before accepting an offer to return to OSU as Assistant Professor of Small Animal Medicine. She taught in the University’s community practice department, preparing senior veterinary students for private practice. After several years, Dr. Burkhart returned to private practice in Ashland, Ohio before co-purchasing the Animal Medical Center of Ontario.

Dr. Burkhart provides all types of care, including small animal preventative care, diagnostic medicine, and surgery. Her special interests are dentistry and behavioral medicine. She is certified to provide stem cell therapy.
